Description

The IT Graduate Program – Scrum Master at Old Mutual offers graduates a structured opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Agile delivery and project management. Based in Johannesburg, this program equips participants with the skills to facilitate Scrum ceremonies, promote Agile values, and support cross-functional teams in achieving delivery excellence. Graduates will work closely with senior Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches, learning to manage backlogs, track sprint progress, and document processes while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This program provides mentorship, exposure to enterprise-scale Agile practices, and clear career pathways into leadership roles such as Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Lead, or Agile Coach.

Responsibilities

  • Support Agile delivery teams by facilitating Scrum ceremonies including Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives
  • Assist Senior Scrum Master in removing impediments that impact team delivery
  • Promote Agile values, principles, and best practices within teams
  • Help teams maintain accurate backlogs, sprint boards, and delivery metrics
  • Track and report on sprint progress, risks, and dependencies
  • Encourage collaboration between developers, testers, product owners, and stakeholders
  • Document Agile processes, ways of working, and improvement actions
  • Participate in Agile training sessions, communities of practice, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3-year Diploma in Information Technology, Project Management, or Business Administration
  • Basic understanding of Agile and Scrum frameworks
  • Awareness of software delivery lifecycles (SDLC)
  • Basic understanding of Agile roles including Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Development Team
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Trello is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Basic understanding of IT concepts including applications, systems, APIs, and cloud
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify blockers and improvement opportunities
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a fast-paced Agile environment
  • Scrum or Agile certifications such as Scrum Fundamentals or CSM are advantageous but not mandatory
  • Internship or project experience in IT Project Delivery is beneficial but not required
